We encourage Muslim Americans to use their power to vote. Voting
allows people to make sure that their elected officials meet their
needs and advocate for them.
I'm glad you asked. Islamophobia is a big think in our society today. Some of the major obstacles Muslims in the US face are the Muslim ban, hate crimes, and lack of Muslims in elected positions that can advocate for them. One of the struggles to help Muslims is the fact that people don’t know a lot about Muslims and what they stand for. What we do is encourage Muslims to make sure they are not misunderstood and left out of important conversations in legislation that can potentially impact their lives.
People from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen were banned from entering the US. In 2018, the Supreme Court with a 5-4 decision allowed for Trump’s ban to be established. The ban has separated Muslim families, rejected Muslims from accessing medical procedures that could save their lives, and stopped many from visiting their families within the US. This ban further encourages the idea that Muslims are a threat, and not part of American society.
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Muslim Americans have experienced hate crimes 67% more in 2015 than in 2014. The No Hate Act includes the enforcement of protections for religiously-affiliated property, improving tools people use to report hate crimes, and also funding state and local governments to do things like create training for employees to identify hate crimes.
